GaMa stands for Gasy Masaky - MALAGASY guys READY to take on the world with music. The band started out in Toliara - Sunshine City of Southwest Madagascar - in the 1996, where we were all at university. Ten years on, our camaraderie and our music are still at the centre of our lives.

Madagascar is part of the world, but no-one can deny it has got its own individuality. In our first album, we mix traditional Malagasy rhythms from around the Big Island with a bit of rock, a bit of reggae and a bit of funk. We are young people at the crossroads of global culture and Malagasy style.

We sing our own stories and we sing about Madagascar - our ancestral land. We sing about daily struggles and nightly revels. We sing because we love it, and if our singing can help solve our country’s problems, then we will sing even louder!
